Factors affecting obesity among California rural Indians

A statewide needs assessment was conducted to examine health risks and wellness factors for 13 rural reservation Indian tribes. The great prevalence of obesity and related behavioral factors will be presented based on this assessment. Included will be factors related to physical exercise, diet selection, and nutrition knowledge. The impact of obesity on chronic diseases such as hypertension, diabetes, arthritis, and cardiovascular disease will be examined. The incidence of depression among these adult California Indians will also be explored as it relates to obesity and other factors.
