Environmental strategies for substance abuse prevention seek to change the social context in which tobacco, alcohol, and illicit drugs are used, through reducing availability and challenging beliefs about the acceptability of substance use. This social change comes about as a result of passing wise public policy. Our website, ePrevco.com, funded under a Small Business Innovative Research contract from the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA), gives prevention policy advocates the tools and resources they need to conduct effective policy advocacy campaigns. It also provides a “portal” through which advocates working on similar issues in geographically distant communities can network with one another. We will present the preliminary results of a case study evaluation in which four community-based organizations applied ePrevco.com in the implementation of a variety environmental strategies for substance abuse prevention.
