This presentation discusses substance abuse and violence against women. It includes a demonstration of a tutorial for professionals and one for consumers. Funded by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, Center for Substance Abuse Prevention, the tutorials break new ground by making this information accessible to multiple audiences in a format readily accessible by all Web browsers.

This is the first online tutorial to address the subject of violence against women and substance abuse and will increase public involvement in this important public health issue. Continuing education units will be offered.

The tutorials include an overview of substance abuse and violence against women. Specific topics include issues and drugs related to sexual assault and rape, assessment and treatment options, legal options for women and necessary safety precautions, myths and facts about substance abuse and violence against women, the cycle of violence, emotional and psychological effects of sexual assault and rape, laws regarding abuse and sexual assault, and safety plans.

Features include interactive quizzes, screening tools, a glossary, links to related Web sites, and lists of various resources such as hotlines.
