This project was designed to develop, implement and evaluate a community based oral health outreach model program targeted to clients with HIV/AIDS and their caregivers. The educational model consists of four interactive stations, including caring for your teeth and gums, nutrition, oral self exam procedure and oral health screening assessment. Two specific aims are included in this project: Assess the oral health status and knowledge of individuals and HIV/AIDS and their caregivers; and Increase the utilization of oral health care service by clients with HIV/AIDS. Seven educational programs have been completed, and educational materials used in these programs will be showcased. Key lessons learned during the development and operational stages of the program will be presented and discussed. The effectiveness of the program will be reported by describing three measures. The first, changes in knowledge about oral health care, was measured via pre and post tests. The second outcome measure, changes in oral health care utilization rates, was tracked through self report and the use of a return card for dental care. The third outcome measure, participant satisfaction rates with the program, was measured through the use of a survey completed after program completion.
