Study on relation of the national alcohol consumption and mortality

The purpose of this study was to analyse relation of the national alcohol consumption and mortality. Data used in the national alcohol consumption and mortality were obtained from 'International Statistics Yearbook of 2001' published by National Statistical Office of Korea.

The major findings are as follows:

First, there are many kind of causes of death that positive correlation between alcohol consumption and mortality are 'malignant neoplasms', 'malignant neoplasm of trachea, bronchus and lung', 'diseases of the digestive system', 'disease of the liver', 'hypertensive diseases', and 'cerebrovascular diseases'. Second, there are many kind of causes of death that the shape of J-curve between alcohol consumption and mortality are 'ischaemic heart diseases', diseases of the circulatory system', 'extra causes of mortality', and 'intentional self-harm. Third, there are many kind of causes of death that negative correlation or the shape of U-curve are 'diseases of the respiratory system' and 'pneumonia'.
