Alexis M. Williams, MPH, CHES, Nutrition and Physical Activity Promotion, American Cancer Society, 1599 Clifton Road, Atlanta, GA 30329-4251, 404-329-7616, awilliam@cancer.org

Active for Life is a ten week worksite physical activity program that encourages adults to be more active through a combination of efforts including; personal goal setting, record keeping, education, and incentives. Originally developed by the CDC and NCPPA, the American Cancer Society further tested and refined the program for large scale dissemination. It was found to have a positive impact on participants’ physical activity related stage of change, as well as improved energy and stress levels. In addition, evaluation demonstrated that the program could be delivered to worksites through the network of a voluntary health agency. This paper will demonstrate how national organizations can collaborate to adopt and diffuse innovative intervention strategies.
