Purpose: There are laws and programs available in each state that are designed to help women enhance their health. The purpose of this Public Health Student led project is to inform women of their rights as they pertain to health. A booklet describing women’s health rights in Connecticut will be distributed to women and health care providers for two purposes: to make women aware of their rights surrounding a specific health issue and to connect women with services that can help them exercise their rights. This project seeks to assist women to be their own public health advocates.

Methods: A comprehensive search using Westlaw, Lexis and the internet was performed to review all laws in Connecticut affecting the key health areas of: Mental Health, Substance Abuse, Pregnancy, Reproductive Rights, Breast Feeding, Smoking, STDs and AIDS, Care for older people, Hospitalization, Patient’s Rights, Cancer Screening and Treatment, Confidentiality, Sexual Assault, Rights to Emergency Services, Domestic Violence and Disabilities.
