During the past decade considerable efforts have been made to address the evaluation of health promotion interventions globally. This presentation very briefly reviews the work of several key efforts: those of the CDC, the International Union of Health Promotion and Education (IUHPE); the European Region of WHO; the Pan American Region (PAHO); and several countries. It is in this context that the IUHPE has taken the lead in looking at effectiveness and evidence in health promotion from a global perspective. The strategic framework for this task is presented in detail, including the development of the evaluation teams and the program of work undertaken. The underlying logic framework is discussed and specific examples of evaluated approaches are presented. Results are presented from both published and ongoing work. Special attention will be given to articulating how evaluation of health promotion in developing countries can be evaluated, based on the results of recent meetings in Africa and S.E. Asia.
