Community Cardiac Risk Assessment Campaign Review

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 20% of Americans have elevated blood cholesterol levels. The American Heart Association estimates that 99.5 million American adults have total blood cholesterol values of 200 mg/dL and higher and about 33.9 million American adults have levels of 240 mg/dL or above. The Main Line Health Community Health department, in collaboration with the Main Line Health Heart Center, Cardiac Rehabilitation and Marketing departments implemented a Community Cardiac Risk Assessment program. The community-based campaign was conducted through out Montgomery, Delaware, Chester and Philadelphia counties. This 30-minute assessment includes a lifestyle profile, HDL and total cholesterol, glucose and blood pressure testing, a computerized print out of test results and recommendations for lifestyle enhancements and a consulttion with a health care professional. This presentation will review the development, implementation and evaluation of this sucessful program.
