Spread out but still the same health message

Caroline Colbert, MEd, CHES, Marcie Sabina, Alisha Kemp, and Kim Conner. Automated Health Systems, 300 Arcadia Court, 9370 McKnight Road, Pittsburgh, PA 15237, 412-367-3030, Ches4704@aol.com

Automated Health Systems made the decision to start a Health Education program to benefit its employees and to met some of the different health needs that were identified by a Wellness Assessment. Common problems such as high risk of heart attacks, obesity, and lack of exercise were identified, but more of a concern was how the information was going to get to over 200 employees. Like many other companies, AHS has office in several different states, but also have employee that work out of their homes some distance away from any office. The Wellness Committee wanted to be able to reach all of the employees, not just those in a central location and had to find different ways to provide health information. This session will look at some of the common techniques used such as payroll stuffers and articles in the employee newsletter, but also unique answers to the problem such as email health messages to all employees, a phone system that allows individuals to hear a health message and leave concerns. Presented will be our success, things that did not work well, and were we are one year later.
