This presentation will present highlights from an international survey of Clubhouses conducted between September 2000 and March 2001. The survey featured 160 US and non-US organizational respondents. By comparing characteristics and performance of US and non-US Clubhouses recognized by the International Center for Clubhouse Development (ICCD), this study seeks to understand similarities and differences among Clubhouses located in different countries. Methods: A survey was sent to all Clubhouses listed in the ICCD Directory of Clubhouses (250). The overall response rate was 68% (N=169) with almost identical response rates from US (67%) and non-US (69%) Clubhouses. Results: The results presented here suggest many similarities between US and non-US Clubhouses, suggesting successful dissemination of the program model internationally. However, there are certain differences in organizational structure, employment approaches, and recognition of substance abuse needs in Clubhouses in different countries suggests some adaptations around the margins of the model to address legal or cultural particularities that are associated with culture, region or country.
