The Center for Mental Health Services (CMHS) Housing Initiative for Persons with Serious Mental Illness is a multi-site study of supported housing and other housing approaches for persons living with serious mental illness. This presentation offers a subgroup analysis based on cross-site data, with particular attention to the Connecticut site.

The analysis focuses on differences between two subgroups of study participants: participants with a primary mental health problem, compared to those with primary substance abuse history. We will study whether these subgroups have 1) distinct characteristics (at baseline), 2) different participation rates in the different housing models, and 3) differences in outcomes measuring residential stability, substance abuse, and physical and mental health after 12-months of study participation. We will address the issue of whether the Supported Housing or a comparison approach is more strongly associated with good outcomes for each subgroup.
