Site specific findings from the NYC site study of the CMHS Housing Initiative for Persons with Serious Mental Illness provide a number of implications to other large urban areas where housing is scarce and homelessness is rising. The population studied includes persons with substantial histories of homelessness and of mixed ethnicity. Outcomes of tenants in two distinct models of supported housing are compared to those in community residences, a housing program that provided one of the greatest contrasts to supported housing among all models studied. The supported housing models include one in a congregate mixed population setting, the other a scattered-site program. The presentation will meld qualitative and quantitative findings and present a qualitative analysis of patterns of moves of tenants, propensity stratum specific findings in which quantitative results are explicated through qualitative analyses and two part models that attempt to distinguish the characteristics and movement patterns of persons who remain in their initial placement from those who move.
