Abstract #46964

Implications for consumers from the CMHS Housing Initiative

Elaine Myers, Portland State University, 1300 East Main, #109, Hillsboro, OR 97123, (503)693-7428, mlassiter@prainc.com

The findings from the CMHS Housing Initiative provide a number of insights into the importance of housing and how it is provided to mental health consumers. Ms. Meyers will speak as a representative of the CMHS Housing Initiative’s Consumer Panel and discuss the implications of these findings from a consumer perspective. In particular, she will discuss the special attention that appears to be required from housing programs to help people with alcohol/substance abuse problems, as well as people with more severe mental health histories. In addition, Ms. Meyers will discuss a composite measure of well-being developed with the assistance of the Initiative’s Consumer Panel, who helped to select and weight the outcomes used in the measure, because a number of the outcomes examined in the study are subjective.
