Abstract #47038

Resident perspectives on housing for persons with serious mental illness: Findings from the CMHS Housing Initiative

Molly Lynch, PhD, Vandrbilt Institute for Public Policy Studies, Center for Mental Health Policy, 1915 I St. NW, Suite 600, Washington, DC, DC 20006, 202-833-3514, molly.e.lynch@vanderbilt.edu

To assess the fidelity of supported housing in the CMHS Housing Initiative, as well as to examine the implementation of the various comparison housing approaches, a housing fidelity framework was designed. The framework was designed to describe the major dimensions of the housing approaches and assess how well each housing program matched an ideal of supported housing. Fidelity to the supported housing model was measured from three perspectives: program management, housing staff, and residents. This presentation compares the perceptions of residents about the way their housing is structured and operates to those provided by program management and staff, highlighting areas of agreement and disagreement. In addition, the impact of resident perceptions of housing fidelity on various outcomes, such as residential stability, satisfaction, and quality of life, will also be presented.

Preliminary results suggest that, although the patterns of perceptions are the same for residents as for PM and staff, there assessment of both SH and other housing approaches are further from the SH ideal than the other perspectives.
