Abstract #47281

Providing housing to persons with serious mental illness: Implications for policy and research from the CMHS Housing Initiative

Debra J. Rog, PhD, Vanderbilt Institute for Public Policy Studies, 1915 I Street, NW, Suite 600, Washington, DC 20006, 202-833-3512, debra.j.rog@vanderbilt.edu

The results from the CMHS Housing Initiative for Persons with Serious Mental Illness offer considerable guidance for policymakers and researchers, especially the results emerging from studies of the structural and operational dimensions of a range of housing approaches and examinations of key across the nation and studies identifying key subgroups in the population who fare relatively better or worse in these approaches. Dr. Rog, serving as the session discussant, will highlight the implications of these findings for housing policy as well as for further research on the types of housing and service approaches that work best for whom. Particular focus will be placed on the research needed on approaches most appropriate for serving those who have the greatest difficulties in maintaining residential stability.
