Improving Nutritional Habits in a Rural Southeastern School System: Running with Wally the Well-Fed Watermelon

After discovering that many cafeteria meal choices are over 50% fat and approximately 20% of American children are now overweight, "Wally the Well-Fed Watermelon" is on the run searching for well-balanced meals in rural school cafeterias. During this presentation you will meet Wally and examine his application of the PRECEDE-PROCEED model for evaluating and revising school meal programs. Run with Wally as he shares his learner-centered, hands-on curriculum unit for teaching positive nutrition habits in a rural southeastern school system. Hand-outs and lesson plans will be provided.
