Abstract #48902

Ritalinda D'Andrea, PhD, Stroudwater Community Research, 1270 Crabb River Rd, Ste 600 #98, Richmond, TX 77469, (281) 937-9997, rdandrea@houston.rr.com, Michael A. DeGuzman, MPH, Baylor Injury Center, Baylor College of Medicine, 6621 Fannin St, MC1-1481, Houston, TX 77030, and Christopher Schmitt, Houston Regional HIV/AIDS Resource Group, 500 Lovett Blvd Ste 100, Houston, TX 77006.

Eligible Metropolitan Areas that receive funding for HIV/AIDS services from the Ryan White CARE Act are mandated to document need through triennial comprehensive needs assessments. For many such communities, though rich data has been gathered, it is analyzed only in the context of the federal requirements, despite the need for other data such as support information for grant applications, documentation of outcomes of care and data for community education. This workshop suggests that survey data of this type can be configured to create instruments that generate relevant surrogate data in a variety of topics including health-related quality of life in persons with HIV/AIDS. A Quality of Life surrogate measure was created from survey data from the 2002 Comprehensive Needs Assessment, conducted in the Houston, Texas metropolitan area. An index was determined and correlated with the SF-20, a standardized measure of health-related quality of life.
