In an effort to enhance the use of the NJ Immunization Information System (NJIIS) by private practitioners in Camden City, The Southern NJ Perinatal Cooperative(SNJPC), a regional maternal child health consortium, in collaboration with the Camden County Department of Health and Human Services has established a service bureau. Historically Camden City has a low immunization rate and a large Medicaid population. NJIIS is an electronic immunization registry, provided by the NJ Department of Health and Senior Services. The overall goal of the NJIIS project is to improve age appropriate immunization coverage to 90% of 2 year olds. The service bureau at SNJPC enters demographic and immunization data provided by participating physicians. The bureau mails reminder/recall postcards to preschool children in Camden City identified by NJIIS as due or overdue for immunizations. Future plans to include the involvement of Healthy Mothers Healthy Babies Coalition health care advocates to assist in identifying children in need of further follow-up.
