Communication, coordination, and capacity in community emergency preparedness and disaster response

Participants will acquire specific information and learn skills that can be used to prepare for a community public health event or disaster/emergency scenario, in a systematic manner and how to conduct and coordinate the response with effectiveness and high impact proficiency. Attendees will learn through case studies of live examples depicting actual incidents that were compromised by inadequate knowledge, training, and preparation.
Learners will acquired skills resulting in:
- an in-depth grasp of how to design an effective Emergency Preparedness and Disaster Response preparation manual, practice it, and evaluate their community’s performance using Critical Success FormulaÔ metrics
- an understanding of the respective roles and responsibilities of public health officials and organizations, first responders, and private sector providers and institutions, and how to integrate them properly while on the ground and under pressure and environmental threat
The focus is on “The Three C’s”: communication, coordination, and capacity. These are the critical variables, which determine the level of outcome in disaster drill preparation and real time response. At the conclusion of the session, participants will come away with policies, procedures, and real time drill sequences that can be implemented in any community, practicing a variety of actual scenarios.
