Temporary relocation of families living in dwellings slated for lead hazard control work is considered a key component in effective childhood lead poisoning prevention. Relocation was originally limited to HUD lead hazard control grant programs. Since September 1999, HUD regulations are much more broadly applicable. However, little empiric information is available to describe what lead hazard control programs currently practice. In an effort to provide guidance to programs, relocation staff from 15 lead programs were interviewed to identify information about relocations options currently in use. This presentation will review options for temporary housing, packing and moving, and typical family expenses for relocation. Successes and failures identified by these programs will be shared.
