PeriStats: Perinatal statistics at your fingertips

Michael J. Davidoff, MPH, Joann Petrini, MPH, and Rebecca B. Russell, MSPH. Perinatal Data Center, March of Dimes Birth Defects Foundation, 1275 Mamaroneck Ave, White Plains, NY 10605, 914.994.4549, mdavidoff@modimes.org

PeriStats is a web-based resource publicly available via the March of Dimes web site (www.marchofdimes.com), providing national, state and county maternal and infant health data in an interactive, user-friendly format. PeriStats was designed by the March of Dimes Perinatal Data Center, specifically to support health professionals working to improve the health of women, infants and children by providing perinatal data to inform needs assessments, program planning, presentations, public and professional health education materials, and more. PeriStats users can instantly display graphs, tables, inter-state and US comparisons for their choice of indicators by selected demographic variables. Where available, PeriStats provides relevant Healthy People 2010 objectives, which can be used as benchmarks. Users can generate data related to births, infant deaths, population, and risk indicators. PeriStats also provides a direct link to state health departments, which provide additional resources and important data related to state-specific maternal and infant health priorities.

The PeriStats Technology Theater presentation will allow APHA attendees to experience PeriStats first hand by providing guided tours of the site. In addition, handouts and other resources will be provided so that participants can be reminded of the benefits of this resource in their daily work serving the needs of mothers and infants.
