Results of In-situ XRF Soil Lead Testing in Boston

This paper will describe an innovative XRF in-situ sampling methodology used to evaluate soil lead levels in more than 100 properties in Boston. The method focuses on evaluation of lead levels in the drip line area, bare soil areas and areas of high use. For 44 of those properties, XRF results will be compared to results of soil samples taken in the same areas and analyzed by laboratory AA and ICP. Discussion of measurement issues will include spatial variation, quality control, and relevance of this technique to current EPA guidelines.
