Local boards of health either advise or serve as the local public health agency governing body. Elected or appointed, board of health members also represent direct ties to the community(ies) that the local public health agency serves. This session will discuss this dual role of governance and representation by focusing on the methods and tools, such as the National Public Health Performance Standards Governance tool, that local board of health members may utilize to improve both the individual member’s ability and the board's overall capacity to adequately fulfill the core functions of public health.
