In the effort to provide quality training in research and program planning, those in professional preparation programs are continually searching for ways to fund student projects. Through the Collegiate Project Assistance Initiative of the Paso del Norte Health Foundation of El Paso, Texas, student projects at five universities have been funded over the past two years. This year represents the third year of the five-year initiative. Student-led projects at each of the five institutions are designed to build human capacity for health promotion and disease prevention research and activities among interested students from various disciplines across campus through funding for health promoting projects. During this presentation, the process for approaching foundations to secure similar funding for these types of projects will be presented. Problems of securing this funding, and how those problems might be overcome will be discussed. By visiting the NMSU website and clicking on HOT Projects, specifics of the program can be reviewed.
