In 2001, the American Chiropractic Association formed a committee to advance the principles of wellness in chiropractic practice. The first step of the committee was to develop, through a consensus process involving experts within the profession, a statement on the relationship of the concept of “wellness” to chiropractic practice. This statement included definitions of key terms and description of appropriate services chiropractors might employ in the following aspects of the clinical encounter: evaluation and assessment of patients, including identification of risk factors and health needs; provision of information and patient education; intervention and monitoring, including patient counseling on behavior and lifestyle; and integration of chiropractic with other community resources for health promotion, prevention and wellness. This presentation will provide an overview of the committee’s consensus statement and an update of the ACA Wellness Campaign’s current progress.
