Abstract #51925

Advocacy and your affiliate: Perfect together

Fern Walter Goodhart, MSPH, CHES, Rutgers University Health Services, Rutgers University, 319 Hurtado Health Center, CAC, 11 Bishop Place, New Brunswick, NJ 08901-1180, 732-932-7710 x 273, goodhart@rci.rutgers.edu

Over the last few years, the NJPHA has positioned itself to gain credibility by building relationships with legislators and coalition partners, tracking and testifying on priority issues, coordinating an annual legislative dialogue, and holding legislators accountable for their votes (eg, through an annual public health legislative scorecard). These and other strategies will be briefly described as possible tools for any affiliate to adapt to their own needs in order to influence state public health policy.
