Current patent protections make drugs unaffordable to millions who need them, and the current structure of the pharmaceutical industry provides no incentive to find effective treatments for diseases that affect millions of people in less developed countries. This presentation will outline a new paradigm for restructuring the industry so that research is focused on neglected diseases as well as diseases of the affluent and prices are low.
