Importance of Community Health Workers and Promotoras in Health Care

The session will provide an overview of responsibilities of Community Health Workers and Promotoras, their similarities and distinctions, training and value to heath care providers. Promotora/Community Health Worker models and their role in delivering culturally competent care in urban and rural settings will be recognized. We will discuss how Promotoras and Community Health Workers can play an effective and integral role in health care delivery by highlighting several Promotora programs in California.
