Abstract #52572

COPC DIASPORA: The many global manifestations of COPC

Jaime Gofin, MD, MPH, Hebrew University-Hadassah School of Public Health & Community Medicine, PO Box 12272, Jerusalem, 91120, Israel, 97226777119, jaime@md2.huji.ac.il

The principles of COPC has been applied worldwide in different and diverse health service systems. A major element in the dissemination of this approach and its many global manifestations, has been the academic environment in which the development of the practice and research of COPC took place in the Hadassah Community Health Center in Jerusalem.

The teaching of COPC for public health students in Jerusalem to more than 1,000 health professionals from over 75 countries sowed the seeds for the increasing dissemination of the approach. The research carried out on the feasibility and evaluation of COPC and the subsequent publications created the knowledge base needed for this application. Furthermore, the practice experiences in Latin American countries, in Spain, United Kingdom, Turkey, Canada, USA, and in South Africa and other African countries illustrate the diverse manifestations of this approach.

The role of national policy, of the attributes and relevance of the approach, of the need for specific skills, required for the dissemination of COPC, will be presented and analyzed.
