Learning Objectives: 1. Understand the implications of welfare reform policies for the health of poor women and their children, particularly in the context of poor health. 2. Evaluate the prevalence of mental health, domestic violence, and substance abuse problems in mothers of chronically ill children in context of their welfare status. 3. Recognize the role that maternal health problems may play in ability to work. 4. Describe the Personal Responsibility Work Opportunity and Reconciliation Act (PRWORA) of 1996 and its effects on enrollment trends in health insurance and food stamps. 5. Discuss the impact of these policy changes on underserved populations. 6. Develop recommendations for congressional reauthorization of the PRWORA in 2002 to benefit underserved populations | |||
