As public health faculty increasingly seek to build partnerships with community organizations for teaching and scholarly work, it is becoming evident that there are skills and competencies necessary for faculty to be effective in these roles. This session will not only present a variety ways faculty development is being addressed, but also the student & community benefits and outcomes resulting from faculty development activities. The session will present the following: 1) how faculty skills and competencies can be developed based upon the Dreyfus model of knowledge and skill acquisition.; 2) developing workshops on community organizing and Service-Learning principles; 3) the team impact of individual, cultural, and structural changes to an MPH core course in Epidemiology (team of faculty, graduate students, administrators, education experts, and technology specialists); and 4) a faculty development fellowship program in a college of medicine. | |||
Learning Objectives: 1. Develop understanding of a model of faculty development to build community-campus partnerships 2. Provide a framework for understanding the relevance and application of community organizing principles to public health practice and community health; 3. Assess the effectiveness of teaching and learning in your school's MPH core courses 4) Describe the goals for a public health oriented medical school faculty development fellowship. | |||
