This session presents the use of informatics in a variety of settings for a variety of uses. Settings cover academics, a university/health department collaboration, and an inter-agency collaboration, and in a practice setting. Types of activities discussed include inter-agency data warehouses to support policy, using longitudinal probabilistic matching to evaluate electronic birth certificate reporting, use of linked data to study developmental delays, and the comparison of chart audits to immunization registries in the assessment of immunization coverage.
Learning Objectives: At the conclusion of this session the participant will be able to: 1) Describe the use of informatics in research, policy, and practice. 2) Discuss two approaches used to assess two applications of informatics. 3) Compare and contrast the types of databases discussed in the papers and the methods used for linking them.
