| This session will discuss numerous issues related to emloyed adults who use recreational drugs off the job site. The hypothesized relation between drug use and accidents, absenteeism and worker productivity will be reviewed. An evaluation of research on current/past random worksite drug testing programs will be presented. A representaive of a Labor Union will provide their union's perspective on these issues. Lastly, a review of other drug abuse prevention programs at the worksite will be presented. This session should be helpful to managers in planning effective drug abuse prevention programs for employees and staff. The session will provide workers and union personnel up to date information on this important and costly public health issue. | |||
| Learning Objectives: At the conclusion of this session, the participant will be able to: 1)List the pros/cons of random workplace drug testing; 2)Discuss the 'state of the art' of the knowledge base on drug use and worker productivity; 3)Define the elements of worksite drug abuse prevention strategies, and; 4)Identify labor unions' perspectives on drug-worksite issues. | |||
