The session will provide an introduction to the background, rationale, and content of the Public Health Code of Ethics, with a discussion of its relevance to current epidemiologic research and practice as well as its relation to common theories of bioethics and ethical guidelines for epidemiologists. Specific issues will be presented discussed in light of the Code of Ethics, including barriers to implementing informed consent and common ethical challenges in the conduct of epidemiologic research. The session will allow time for discussion among participants, presenters, and moderators. | |||
Learning Objectives: Participants in this session will be able to: 1. Discuss the Public Health Code of Ethics and its relevance to epidemiologic practice. 2. Describe the relationship of the Code of Ethics to other ethical approaches or guidelines as applied to research and practice. 3. Examine common ethical issues in epidemiology in light of the Code. | |||
