This session aims to bring some light to the heated on-going debate on globalization and its effects in poor countries. It starts from the position that empirical evidence, and perspectives and perceptions from those most immediately engaged and affected, should be the foundation for discussion. The session will address the economic dimension, including the impact of globalization on economic growth and on poverty and income inequality in developing countries, with particular reference to Latin America. It will set out perspectives and perceptions of people affected by globalization in the Islamic countries of the Middle East and North Africa. and in selected countries in Asia. A case study on the impact of globalization on economic and social conditions, including health and health services, in Egypt will conclude the session. | |||
