| The tragedy of September 11 has made a profound impact on all of our lives, our economy, our psyche and our health. As we pause to reflect on health, the fragility and vulnerability of our Public health system in the United States has been particularly exposed and criticized by many as being weak, uncoordinated, ineffective and leaderless. APHA as a pre-eminent non governmental organization with a mission dedicated to the public’s health has a potentially crucial role in the future health of the nation and in the unfolding of an improved and strengthened public health system. However public health is not confined to just local or state or national challenges as it also requires a global scope to be effective. There are many dedicated APHA visionaries and pioneers of international health who have continually advocated for this global aspect as an integral part of all public health activities. This analysis of the history and evolution of international health is their story of where we have been and could have been. Oral interviews and file materials provide a uniique window to their efforts. The retrospective reflection of key individuals and former leaders will provide experiences and insight to aid the process of where APHA should focus in the future in the international health arena. Come and participate in this opportunity to discuss and revisit our history and exchange ideas for health strategies for the future. | |||
