The SPIG invites abstracts on topics related to public health aspects of alternative and complementary health practices. Areas of interest include, but are not limited to: Abstracts related to the Annual Meeting theme are particularly welcome. Some examples of alternative and complementary health practices include traditional health systems such as:
- Ayurvedic Medicine
- Botanical Medicine, Including Herbal Therapies from Various Cultures
- Chinese Medical Practices (including herbal medicine, acupuncture, etc.)
- Energy Medicines, Including Therapeutic Touch, Chakra Healing, and Other Forms of Energetic Healing
- Homeopathy
- Manual Medicine, Including Osteopathic and Chiropractic Manipulation
- Naturopathic Medicine
- Nutritional Practices, Such as Vegetarianism and Macrobiotics
- Other Areas Not Usually Considered Within the Realm of Conventional Medical Practices
- Spiritual or Self-awareness Practices Aimed at Health Promotion or Disease Recovery
- Traditional Indigenous Health Care Systems
Abstracts are judged on clarity of presentation, originality, methodology and contribution to the field. Highest rated abstracts, based on blinded peer review, are generally selected and placed in sessions according to the overall program plan for that year. Abstracts may be submitted as a group. However, they will be reviewed individually and will be placed in sessions, if accepted, according to the discretion of the Program Chair.
