Gerontological Health

Submit Abstract

The Gerontological Health Section (GHS) welcomes abstracts on all topics related to health and aging. Submissions related to the 2003 Annual Meeting theme of "Behavior, Lifestyle, and Social Determinants of Health" and/or to other APHA sections are especially encouraged. Additional areas of interest for sessions include:

Individuals may submit up to two (2) abstracts as first author to the Gerontological Health Section. Submissions may be for poster, oral, or roundtable session formats; please note desired format on the abstract form.

Submissions of whole sessions will also be considered. To propose a session, first submit all abstracts individually through the web submission process. Then inform the program planner via email (see address below). The email should include the name, address, phone number and email address of the session organizer, the title of the session, an abstract and rationale for the session, and a list of the individual abstracts to be included in the session, their presenters, and the web ID of each individual abstract. In addition, each presenter should send their own email to the program planner to indicate their willingness to participate in the proposed session.

Note: Abstract reviewers will evaluate whether the following criteria are addressed:

Implications identified (required for practice-oriented abstracts)
Innovativeness of ideas (required for theory-oriented abstracts)
Presentation of empirical results (required for research-oriented abstracts)

Authors should also indicate in their email whether they wish their abstract to be considered for presentation in other sessions in the event that the proposed session as a whole cannot be accommodated.

Special AWARDS will be given in several categories:
  • to bachelors/masters students
  • to doctoral students
  • to new investigators (less than five years after completion of a terminal degree)
  • to the best paper on "aging and international research and policy development"
  • to the best paper on "older women and public health"
  • to the best paper on "aging and rural health"
  • to the best paper on "aging and minority health"
  • to the "most innovative program for the elderly"

    If you wish your abstract to be considered for an award (for all awards, except the program innovation award) please indicate so on the abstract submission form. Each abstract can be considered only for one award. You may, however, submit different abstracts to be considered for different awards.
