Immunization Registries: Getting the Message Out to Providers
Tammy Pilisuk, MPH, Immunization Branch, California Department of Health Services, 2151 Berkeley Way Rm. 712, Berkeley, CA 94704, 510/849-5070, tpilisuk@dhs.ca.gov
Learning Objectives:
Immunization registries are a growing trend in states across the U.S. with a National Healthy People objective to have 95% of kids under age 6 included in a registry by 201
However, many states, including California, have no mandate for provider participation. To encourage them to voluntarily participate in a registry, registry staff and involved stakeholders must use an education campaign to help physicians understand key registry benefits, for themselves, their office staff, and their patients. The California Department of Health Services worked with CDC and Every Child By Two to produce and distribute a video entitled “Health Care Providers Speak Out on Immunization Registries.” The video features physicians and office staff talking about their experiences using a registry, advantages, and obstacles overcome. Attendees of this session will learn how the collaborative process was formed for production, and key venues for national chosen to maximize exposure. They will be able to assess the planning process, identify organizational and creative steps taken, and define key messages in the final product. A presentation on this topic demonstrates the best aspects of delivering a timely message on an important topic, excellent collaboration with stakeholders, and practical public-private collaboration to get the job done.
