Monitoring the progress of American Indians and Alaska Natives (AI/ANs) can be challenging in Healthy People 2010 (HP2010) given the limitations of most major national data systems used to track the HP2010 objectives. This presentation will review select HP2010 objectives that monitor the progress of AI/ANs, investigate the data issues associated with unreliable data for AI/ANs, summarize current data sources that adequately measure AI/ANs, and present their most current progress nationally and by the 12 Indian Health Service (IHS) Areas. Improvements to current IHS data sources will be presented in the context of their ability to track HP2010 objectives for AI/ANs.
