Many degenerative and chronic disorders are preventable. Although secondary prevention is widely practiced, primary prevention is not. As the rapidly expanding elder population promises to further tax healthcare resources, part of the solution must be a new emphasis on primary prevention.
The chiropractic profession is well situated to provide patients with preventive health care, but chiropractors will need improved interdisciplinary collaboration, better access to information, and training in prevention skills.
Proactivhealth LLC serves as a resource for healthcare professionals who wish to provide clinical preventive health services. A detailed evidence-based questionnaire identifies risk factors for development of chronic disorders. Computerized analysis projects the net effect of each patient’s risk profile. Disorders for which the patient may be at risk are targeted with a customized report of prevention recommendations, including the use of professionally administered complementary and alternative therapies, nutritional and botanical supplementation, and dietary & lifestyle modification. All recommendations are fully referenced to the current literature. The provider utilizes the report as an information resource. Proactivhealth also provides ongoing support and training.
