A pre-test, intervention, post-test design provided for the evaluation of a home visit intervention by community outreach staff, using a standardized curriculum, provided to caregivers of pediatric primary care clients with asthma being cared for in nurse-managed centers serving vulnerable populations. The concepts studied included knowledge, triggers, emergency room visits and hospital stays. With a current n of 198, there has been a statistically significant improvement of knowledge, common triggers in homes and bedrooms, and a decrease in emergency room use and overnight hospital stays.
