Rehabilitation services for individuals with significant vision impairment contribute to enhanced quality of life and potential for independent living. Recognizing this concept, CMS issued a Medicare Program Memorandum in May, 2002 suggesting carrier regions establish and adopt vision rehabilitation programs. Highlights of the Program Memorandum and established carrier policies will be presented. Examples of hospital, agency/based and private practice models for low vision rehabilitation service delivery will be described.
