The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) Provider’s Partnership is a cooperative agreement with the Maternal and Child Health Bureau that includes a series of state-level projects bringing together ACOG Fellows with state public health personnel and strategic state and local organizations to address key women’s health issues such as depression and tobacco use. The complementary goals for this activity are addressing important women’s health issues, while simultaneously building state-level partnerships between ACOG Fellows and public health leadership that can work together on this and future projects. Currently active in fourteen states, these partnerships have resulted not only in innovative initiatives, but also in important collaborations. This presentation will highlight several of these successful partnerships and the lessons learned through the process of their development.

Learning Objectives:

The objectives of this presentation are the following:
• Discuss the importance of public/private partnerships to maximize resources for women in an atmosphere of cutbacks and reallocated funding;
• Recognize the impact of psychosocial factors on pregnancy outcome;
• Identify successful strategies to engage physicians and other health care providers in these partnerships;
• Identify the components that build strong and sustainable MCH partnerships;
• Articulate the difference between partnerships based on service delivery and systems development and identify the complementary role of each for the health and well-being of women.
