The goal of the Florida Coordinated School Health Program (CSHP) Pilot Schools Project is to promote and enhance student academic achievement and health behavior through the provision of coordinated school health programs. CSHPs are comprised of eight components: health education, physical education, health services, nutrition services, counseling and psychological services, healthy school environment, health promotion for staff, and family and community involvement. Eight pilot schools were selected to implement one or more components of the CSHP over a three-year period. Portfolios were selected as an evaluation tool to assess each school's unique implementation of the CSHP. Portfolios allow schools to collect materials and artifacts that illustrate and document their progress in meeting their school specific goals and objectives. Portfolios documented descriptions of activities, objectives addressed, primary audience, CSHP component(s) addressed, cost, funding, and what they would do differently the next time. Portfolio items included planning notes, budgets, flyers, handouts, photographs, participant evaluations, and media coverage. This presentation discusses the development of the CSHP portfolio, addresses its implementation, and examines its utility as an evaluation tool.
