ABSTRACT:

“Implementation of Chiropractic in the Long Term Care/Skilled Nursing Facility” (LTC or SNF).

The presentation will provide a rationale for including Chiropractic in the SNF. This presentation will provide attendees with knowledge of how to successfully implement chiropractic in the nursing home setting, as well as present selected case histories.

Areas presented: Budget impact of chiropractic inclusion. Credentialing of Chiropractic Personnel. Concurrent and/or independent chiropractic care for resident patients. Indications and Contraindications for chiropractic in the geriatric population.

Types of Chiropractic Techniques/modalities available. Overcoming objections to inclusions of chiropractic by presenting the different type of chiropractic techniques and modalities available to the Doctor of Chiropractic. Soft tissue/low force technique and osseous manipulative technique differences presented. Assuring appropriate techniques for the complicated geriatric population.

Chiropractic geriatric resident case histories will be presented. These case histories will document decreased utilization of pharmaceutical analgesia, increased range of motion and function.

Expected outcomes, and possible measurement parameters.

Poster pictorial presentation of the chiropractic equipment, area, and treatment will be displayed.

The presentation will provide the attendee familiar with chiropractic as well as the attendee not familiar with chiropractic an overview of chiropractic inclusion in traditional medical LTC facilities. Complementary and alternative treatment methods (CAM) have been presented at medical conferences (including the Harvard CAM conference) over the past several years. Inclusion of chiropractic offers a safe, effective and cost-effective approach frequently not available currently. This presentation will provide the ability to include Chiropractic in the long term care skilled nursing facility arena.
