Judy L. Stange, PhD1, Charles Ingoglia, MSW2, and Katherine Jakle, MA1. (1) National Association of Mental Health Planning and Advisory Councils (NAMHPAC), 2001 North Beauregard St., 12th Floor, Alexandria, VA 22311, (2) National Mental Health Association, 2001 North Beauregard St., 12th Floor, Alexandria, VA 22311, 703-838-7522, cingoglia@nmha.org

Implementing evidence-based practices can be a challenge for public mental health systems, and educating stakeholders about these practices is essential to effectively promote and support implementation of evidence-based mental health treatment. This presentation will provide background on specific evidence-based practice initiatives, including information about the New Hampshire-Dartmouth Psychiatric Research Center evidence-based practice toolkits, the Texas Medication Algorithms project, and SAMHSA’s “Science to Services” initiative. Presenters will focus on the role that state mental health planning councils can take in organizing stakeholder participation in developing and implementing plans for bringing evidence-based practices to state and community systems of care. The presentation will also discuss the role of mental health planning councils in the continuous quality improvement evaluation of practices after implementation.
