The Prostate Cancer Risk Assessment Program at Fox Chase Cancer Center is an innovative program that offers education, screening and risk assessment to men who are at higher than average risk, because of race or family history, for developing prostate cancer. A comprehensive 50-question survey was developed to assess participant satisfaction with the clinical and risk assessment services provided in the program. The survey evaluates program components within seven domains: accessibility, accountability, credibility, comprehensiveness, informed decision making, continuity, and confidentiality. Participants receive the survey eight-weeks after their initial and annual screening appointments. The survey is submitted anonymously and clinic staff does not access the completed surveys. A preliminary analysis of surveys completed after the initial clinic visit showed 64% of participants were dissatisfied with clinic hours, 36% with waiting time, 32% with attention to privacy during the exam and 36% with information provided about possible insurance consequences of screening, detection and risk assessment. Areas in which participants indicated satisfaction include ease of registration, thoroughness of the physical exam, and willingness of staff to explain things. The results of this preliminary analysis have identified numerous services with which participants are satisfied as well as areas in which PRAP clinical services can feasibly be improved.
