The Francis J. Curry National Tuberculosis Center, one of three national Model Tuberculosis Centers funded by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), creates, enhances, and disseminates state-of-the-art resources and models to control and eliminate tuberculosis. As an organization focused on creating and developing new health education materials and models, CNTC has sought innovative methods to improve the product development process. In the late 1990s, CNTC went live with its website, www.nationaltbcenter.edu, to facilitate the dissemination of information about the Center’s products and training courses. This presentation will review how the Center has applied traditional formative evaluation methods to online technologies. CNTC utilized web-based technology to beta-test a series of educational toolbox products and to evaluate product design and function for an infection control policy and procedure template. CNTC staff also used dedicated its website to support national and international groups of up to 50 professionals as they reviewed and generated materials as part of a national strategic planning process. The use of web technology has significant benefits for improving the formative evaluation process and to enhance organizational communication. The process can conserve staff time by simplifying distribution of minutes, rosters, references and draft-stage materials.
